Life has a way of bringing deep waters and scorching flames—seasons of grief, unexpected loss, overwhelming pressure or pain that doesn’t seem to let up. In those moments, it’s natural to ask, Where is God?
Isaiah 43:2 offers a powerful and deeply personal answer: He is right there. Not watching from a distance. Not waiting on the other side. But walking with His people—through the waters, through the fire.
This verse doesn’t promise a life without hardship. It promises God’s unwavering presence in the middle of it. The waters may rise, but they will not drown. The fire may burn hot, but it will not destroy.
Think of the mother facing a child’s diagnosis, the woman navigating divorce after years of praying for restoration or the caregiver who feels stretched beyond what her heart can carry. Each of them may feel overwhelmed, but God speaks into that fear: I will be with you.
His presence doesn’t always remove the pain, but it does redeem it. It strengthens, sustains and secures. Not even the fiercest trial can separate God’s daughters from His faithful love.
So whatever the fire or flood may be today, hold fast. God is not just a refuge—He is a companion. And He will carry His people through.
