Scripture
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 (NIV)

What in the world does it mean to be “crucified with Christ?”

When we choose to follow Jesus, it’s time to turn from our old way of doing things: thinking selfishly about life, having zero compassion for others and standing in judgment of why someone may do things differently than you. These are just a few of the many changes we’re called to make. These are things to turn away from and instead turn towards God.

Putting former ways of living to death means choosing a better path. Submitting to God’s will shows our Heavenly Father that we walk the walk and talk the talk when it comes to being a follower of God. Our love of God must be greater than anything else in our lives. We must deny what was once tantalizing to the flesh that doesn’t jive with the Holy Spirit’s leading.

Denying old pleasures or former ways of living doesn’t mean life is over. The fun police will not show up at your door to scold you for enjoying life. Choosing to live selflessly means when you face choices—and you will—you make the one that glorifies God. When we follow Him, our lives should reflect a yearning to be more like Him.
