Scripture
“The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.” 1 Corinthians 3:8 (NIV)

Each of us has a role to play in bringing the kingdom of Heaven to earth. Some plant the seeds of His Word through evangelism. Some water those seeds through discipleship. Some reap the harvest by building community with other Christians until their name is called and they return home to Heaven.

Each role is important and vital to God’s purpose. But sometimes, we become convinced that others are playing a larger role than we ever could and will get the benefits of Heaven we’ll never experience. If you’re sitting behind a desk from 9 to 5, surely those working in full-time ministry are more useful to God than you are. You’re not building His kingdom. You’re just toiling until your time is up.

That’s a lie from Satan. Every labor for the kingdom of heaven is important and will be rewarded. From behind your desk, you can show Christ’s love and share the good news with people who may never interact with those in ministry. From your church pew, you can develop new Christians and build community with other believers.

It can be easy to dismiss your role in the grand plan God has for humanity. You can feel small and insignificant next to the great feats God accomplishes through others. But believe in your purpose. You were hand-chosen by God for the work you are doing, and it makes a difference. It will help build a great heavenly kingdom here on earth, and you will be rewarded for your efforts. So, start believing in your purpose and celebrating every accomplishment on your way to Heaven.
