Scripture
“Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.” Proverbs 10:17 (NIV)

The feeling of conviction is between you and God. Your repentance for sin is between you and God. Your entire relationship with the Creator of the Universe is between you and Him. But that doesn’t mean others aren’t watching, learning and mimicking what you do.

Take faith leaders for example. The ones standing in front of the congregation or those leading Bible studies and prayer groups. When they sin or misrepresent Christ, there are serious consequences felt throughout the church. But you? You’re just there to strengthen your personal relationship with God and build community. Your slip-ups don’t affect other people. Your slip-ups are between you and God.

Well, guess what? That’s just not the case. Even if you’re not standing behind a pulpit, you are living out a faith that others see. How you correct sin and handle discipline reveals to the world your heart for the Savior and His commandments.

Maybe it’s your children. Maybe it’s a young woman you mentor. Maybe it’s a friend who’s new to the faith. Whether you realize it or not, there are people in your circle who look to you as an example of Christian life. So, are you showing them the way to life, or are you leading them astray?
