Tomato seeds do not remain just seeds forever—unless you leave them in the package and forget to plant them. Once planted, they aren’t immediately ready-to-eat tomatoes. Their growth is gradual. The transformation from seed to plant is one thing, but the plant that is well taken care of produces fruit.
Our faith is a lot like a garden. God can sprinkle seeds of faith before our eyes, but it’s up to us to care for our relationship with Him and cultivate it. Spending time in prayer feeds our souls. Worshiping God and listening to His message shines light into our lives. Serving others without looking for praise ripens our hearts. Reading our Bibles nourishes our beliefs. Joining a prayer group or Bible study enhances our views and challenges our thoughts.
Think of the spiritual growth that happens when we add one or more of these things to our lives. Like pulling weeds and tending to the tomatoes, the more time we spend with God and studying His word, the better our spiritual outcome.
Plants grow and produce fruit under the right conditions. Our faith is no different.
