Scripture
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (NIV)

How many of us simply assume our children know we love them no matter what?

A broken window from a rogue football.
Late for curfew—again.
Cheating on a spelling test.
Forgetting to take the puppy for a walk.
Caught in the act of not being where they should be.

Our children make wrong choices, not much different from parents sometimes, right? Yet if you stop and ask your children, or really listen as they tearfully confess, you may hear the undertones of worry that your love will cease when they fail.

God doesn’t take for granted that we know how deep, far and wide His love is for us. Scripture is filled with His reassurances that not only are we chosen by Him, but that He holds a jealous, all-consuming love for us.

God’s devotion isn’t dependent on whether we hold the door for a stranger or volunteer at the early bird fundraiser—thankfully! Even when we fall short of His expectations, His love isn’t held back in reserve. We’re encouraged to get back up and get it right the next time around. Not much different than our children’s hope that we’ll extend our never-failing love and grace to them when they need it most.
