Scripture
“Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name.” Psalm 80:18 (NIV)

Chances are you’ve had a father or father figure in your life or perhaps are raising a young man who may one day be a father.

What do we know about dads? Some daddies coach little league, make spaghetti tacos, smash scary bugs, make the best tickle monsters, kiss boo-boos, make silly faces at church, work like crazy and even fix broken things. They have a lot of responsibilities and are an important part of a child’s life. Dads matter! So, what’s the best way to instill these amazing attributes in our sons?

The best dad to emulate is the one who resides in Heaven. God dishes out an immense amount of mercy, patience and grace—something all parents can remember when their child misses curfew or flunks a Spanish test. God’s love is unconditional. No matter what, He’s our biggest fan, cheerleader and loving disciplinarian.

Teach your son to love others, to listen and that it’s not always possible to fix everything that breaks—like hearts. Life is filled with examples of what to do and what not to do. Places to steer clear of and when to be the first one helping. The best person to turn to in any situation is God. He’s our go-to guy for everything. A lesson that at any stage or any age, we’d do well to learn and remember.
