Scripture
“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2 (NIV)

It’s difficult to process the entirety of God’s power with our human minds. We can see the precision and function of race cars as they barrel around a track. Cranes that lift and maneuver tons of steel make it look so easy, like lifting a toothpick. Windmills utilize the power of wind with spinning blades that take an enormous amount of torque to move. Those are all examples of power harnessed for a purpose.

God’s might has been on display for us since creation. One of the most auspicious examples may be the life of a man. A small and helpless infant, born not in a palace but a stable, arriving to save the world. Jesus didn’t arrive in a superhero cape or with laser beam eyes. God could have sent our Defender with legions of angels displaying fire and fury. Instead, our mighty God chose to defeat evil on a wooden cross, making a redemptive path for all who choose to follow.

God didn’t intercede during the crucifixion. He could have ended Jesus’ suffering in the blink of an eye or called it off entirely. It took a lot of control—enormous might—to watch His dying Son cry out in forsaken pain. Yet without this moment of sacrifice and payment for our shortcomings, salvation would not be ours. A mighty gift from God indeed.
