Remember the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz? He spent the whole story searching for courage, convinced it was something he lacked. He thought he needed someone to give it to him—something official, like a medal—before he could be brave. But by the end, he realized the truth: the courage had been there all along.

Aren’t we a little like that? We wait to feel brave before we act. We stall at the edge of hard conversations, new roles, difficult diagnoses or big decisions, waiting for a “stronger” version of ourselves to show up.

But God doesn’t ask us to wait until we feel courageous—He calls us to step out because He is with us.

In Joshua 1, God speaks to a man facing enormous responsibility. Joshua had just taken Moses’ place as leader of Israel. Can you imagine the pressure? And yet, God doesn’t give him a pep talk about talent or experience. He simply says, “Be strong and courageous…for I will be with you wherever you go.”

That promise still holds true.

Courage doesn’t always look like headline-making moments. Sometimes it’s speaking up when your voice shakes. Making a doctor’s appointment you’ve been avoiding. Asking for help. Saying no when it’s easier to say yes. Choosing to stay and work through the hard stuff instead of running from it.

It’s also trusting God when the future looks unclear—when the job is uncertain, the marriage feels strained or the child you love is struggling in ways you can’t fix.

True courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s the decision to move forward with faith anyway.

So, sister, what fear are you facing today? What has God placed on your heart that feels bigger than your ability?

You don’t need to find courage—you need to remember who goes with you. The same God who walked with Joshua walks with you. And His strength is always enough.

Take a deep breath. Take the first step. He’s already one step ahead.
