You’ve probably had seasons when life just didn’t make sense. Pain showed up unexpectedly. Prayers went unanswered. Hopes seemed to hit a wall. That’s exactly where the disciples were on the road to Emmaus—confused, heartbroken and struggling to understand how the cross could fit into the story they thought God was writing.
Jesus, walking beside them in His resurrected glory, gently reminds them that the suffering wasn’t a detour. It was the way through. “Did not the Messiah have to suffer … ?” He asks—not to scold them, but to open their eyes to the bigger picture.
And maybe that’s what you need today. A reminder that your pain isn’t wasted. Your waiting, your heartache, your struggle—it might just be part of something deeper God is doing.
You might be facing a diagnosis that feels like too much to carry. Or longing for healing in a relationship that still feels distant. Maybe the bills keep stacking up, or your heart feels pulled in too many directions trying to keep your family afloat. It’s in these real, raw moments that the cross becomes more than a symbol—it becomes a story you’re living.
Jesus doesn’t promise a life free from hardship. But He does promise that your suffering isn’t the end. Just like His path to glory passed through the cross, your journey might include pain—but it also includes redemption.
So hold on. Look for Jesus walking beside you. Trust that He’s not just aware of your suffering—He’s using it to shape something eternal in you. Because when suffering has a purpose, it also holds a promise: glory is coming.
