The parable of the Prodigal Son is filled with scenarios everyone can relate to. Wandering away from where we’re called to be. Realizing our recklessness was a bad idea. Returning home with our tails tucked. The father who welcomes his son home with no questions asked. The older brother who can’t believe this is transpiring before his angry eyes.
In some circumstances, we’re the prodigal. In others, we’re more like the older brother. Yet one thing is clear: We should always lean towards being more like the father who welcomed one son home with open arms while gently correcting and affirming the other.
When we walk away from our Heavenly Father, He yearns for our return into the fold. And when we do return, He throws a celebration like no other. Compassion, grace, forgiveness and understanding: God runs to meet us with these and so much more. We just have to take those important steps back in the right direction.
