Scripture
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.” Psalm 37:7 (NIV)

Why do some people flourish even when their methods seem shady? How is it that those who choose the high road aren’t always praised like those who make others feel small? Even those flagrantly not following Jesus can elicit envy from believers. How does that happen?

The psalmist David provides comfort in moments when we question, “Why not me?” especially as we observe others flourishing around us. In this verse, we are told not to fret or envy the actions of others. Although they may seem to be prospering, the party always comes to an end. Those who come to success through ways and means that don’t honor God will answer to Him, whether in this lifetime or at the pearly gates. The consequences of their actions are God’s to handle and not ours to worry about. Our charge is to maintain our faith in God and keep His truths alive in our lives.

Remember, your wealth is in Heaven. Rather than sulking while others thrive, take a moment to check your own heart. How are you doing when it comes to comparison and keeping your eyes on Jesus? Are you worrying about what others are doing instead of your walk with Him? Are you taking time to be still in His presence and waiting patiently for God? Do you ask for His forgiveness when un-Godly lifestyles take your attention off of Him?
