Scripture
“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!” Isaiah 30:18 (NIV)

Lent can be a difficult time for many. No one said making sacrifices is easy. As we give up the things that bring us joy it can be easy to forget the long-term purpose of proving our devotion to God through our sacrifices. Doing without the comforts and things we love not only gets us closer to His glory but will one day bring us into His kingdom.

Practicing patience is a critical component of Lent. We may not receive instant gratification for the sacrifices we make, yet God is always watching and listening. He recognizes when we have given up the things we love just because we love Him.

Though it may be challenging to live without social media or the Pizza Fridays we love, remember the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus. What we are letting go of pales in comparison to what Jesus did for us, and yet He freely provides limitless compassion and love to all.
