Scripture
“By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3:19 (NIV)

When we get caught up in the experiences and trials of life, it can be easy to lose perspective. When we become focused on ourselves—how we are being inconvenienced, judged or unjustly treated—we can sometimes turn a blind eye to God’s teachings of who we truly are. We revert to feeling sorry for ourselves or thinking we can never do better in life than where we are in this present moment.

Through Jesus’s love for us, we are reminded of our humanity. Life, even for the Son of God, is fleeting. None of us is more important than another in God’s eyes. No matter our financial, social or personal status on earth, we will all return to where we originated: ashes to ashes, dust to dust. But our souls live on through God’s saving grace.
