It’s easy to forget about our own needs in the hustle and bustle of daily demands. But even the simplest pleasures can help life’s difficulties to become more manageable. Treating yourself doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant and doing activities for the sole purpose of personal enjoyment isn’t selfish. Self-care helps you to unwind and reconnect with yourself.

A great method when looking for ways to treat yourself is to consider what you would do for a partner. To put it in simple terms, romance yourself. Whether you’re in a relationship or living the solo life, romancing yourself will allow you to foster a deeper sense of self-worth and respect. Give yourself permission to live well. You deserve it!

Ways to treat yourself

1

Take yourself on a date

Who says it takes two for a “date” to be real? Pick a new restaurant you’ve been wanting to try out or return to an old favorite spot. Make sure you take steps to make it feel like a special occasion. Put on your favorite outfit, style your hair, put on your best lipstick (if you’re into that sort of thing) and hit the town. You’ll be amazed at how confident dining alone will make you feel.

2

Make yourself breakfast in bed

Similar to the first recommendation, you don’t have to be on a weekend getaway with a significant other to get the perks of one. Find a morning where you can make pancakes, an omelet or whatever floats your boat. Depending on what you’re making, you may be able to do some prep work the night before. Then you can just get up, assemble your meal and curl back under the covers.

3

Get outside

If you work an office job or are inside for the majority of your day, stepping outside and recognizing all of the beauty the world has to offer can help you feel at peace. Visit a park, take a walk around your neighborhood or just sit on your porch. Take in the sights, sounds and smells around you.

4

Make your own spa

Bath bombs and bubbles can feel like an indulgence and depending on where you purchase them, the cost can reflect that. Save your pennies and make your own bath bombs and scrubs at home using ingredients you likely already have. Essential oils, Epsom salt, coconut oil and a few more basic household ingredients can make you feel like you’ve splurged without spending much or any money.

5

Plan an activity for the weekend

It can be as simple as promising yourself you’ll go to your favorite antique shop or buying yourself a movie ticket for a new release—or go big and plan a day trip to another city. Having something to look forward to can be especially helpful during those weeks that just seem to drag on.
