Scripture
“Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?’” John 4:28-29 (NIV)

We have no secrets from God. That’s pretty evident in reading John chapter 4 when the woman at the well has an encounter with Jesus.

She seems to be looking for love in all the wrong places. Married five times and working on husband number six, she’s hoping he will be the one to give her the love she desperately craves. Perhaps she was the topic of talk among the other gals at the well. Hence why she draws water during the hottest part of the day. Most likely, she thought she’d be alone. Instead, she bumps into Jesus.

A Jewish man asking a Samaritan for a drink of water? Umm…no. She wasn’t having it. When Jesus tells her that the Living Water will never cause her soul to thirst, He gets her attention. When He reveals that He knows of her past with men, it’s not to embarrass her but to show that no matter the troubles, no matter the sin, only He can quench the thirst of wanting to be loved. She’s so overwhelmed by this experience, she drops her jars and runs to town to share the news—no matter her past, He wants her to live eternal life.

True and constant satisfaction cannot be found in temporal relationships. People are fallible and will disappoint. God always satisfies our thirst for more. Draw from the well of His love.
