Scripture
“Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. (12) I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?” John 3:11-12 (NIV)

Faith can be complex. Some of us have that “childlike faith” where we instantly believe and receive, while others lean a little more towards a “doubting Thomas” and struggle trusting that God exists. Just as no two people are identical, our faith journeys are varied too. What should we do when we find ourselves questioning and doubting our faith in God?

Take an introspective walk into your life, and see if you can figure out when the doubt came into existence. Was it born from an incident at your church? Have you observed someone who claims to love Christ, yet you do not see Him in their day-to-day actions? Perhaps you have a true yearning to comprehend why God would allow starvation, cancer, infant mortality—and the list goes on. God wants us to love Him freely; hence the creation of free will. If we were all bobble-headed followers, where would true devotion and resurrection exist within our lives?

Let’s be real about having great faith in God: Bad things will still happen in this fallen world. We all sin and fall short of God’s glory. Walking with Jesus does not equate to Easy Street on earth. Having faith in God means that when we fall short, in times of anguish, when things don’t go our way—when we sin—we are not alone. God not only walks with us; He carries us through.
