Want an easy, breezy treat that melts in your mouth? Sequilhos (pronounced say-key-loosh) are perfectly soft and sweet cookies popular in Brazil. Made with just a few simple ingredients, these small bites of sunshine are sure to take you to warmer places!

Prep time: 40 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Serves: 24

Ingredients:

  • 8 Tb. butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup plus
  • 2 Tb. sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/4 cups cornstarch

Directions:

  • 1

    Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • 2

In a large bowl, combine butter and sweetened condensed milk. Mix until completely incorporated. (It’s okay if there are a few lumps.)
  • 3

Add cornstarch to the butter mixture a little at a time, mixing well. If it becomes too hard to mix, use your hands. Stop adding cornstarch once the dough is soft and smooth.
  • 4

Roll 1 teaspoon portions of the dough into balls and flatten gently with your thumb.
  • 5

Place the cookies on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and make a slight impression on each with a fork.
  • 6

Refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes.
  • 7

When done chilling, bake for 15 minutes or until the cookies begin to gain some color on the bottom.
  • 8

Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 15 to 20 minutes. Carefully transfer them to a wire rack so they can finish cooling.
