What does it mean to have a pure heart? None of us are without sin, so it’s not that.
Purity lies in our intentions. Have you ever seen someone do the right thing for the wrong reason? Good deeds for our own gain don’t make for a pure heart. God wants us to serve Him with our whole hearts and let His Word guide our actions.
Living our lives according to God’s plan requires having a relationship with Him. The author of this psalm is asking God to inspect his heart to see if there is anything impure that can be fixed. We can only ask that of someone we trust. We can only ask that when we don’t fear shame.
God will never condemn you or make you feel embarrassed for the things you’ve done. He provides grace and purity so you can grow closer to Him and see His plan with clear eyes.
