Lettuce is an excellent replacement for buns and other breads if you’re looking for fewer calories and carbs! This delicious dish will have you coming back for guilt-free seconds.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tb. vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 large red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 large bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • Kosher salt and ground black pepper
  • 1 lb. skirt steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup provolone, shredded
  • 8 large butterhead lettuce leaves
  • 1 Tb. fresh parsley, chopped

Directions:

    Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add bell peppers and onion, then season with oregano, salt and pepper. Let cook stirring often, until vegetables are tender (about 10 minutes). Remove peppers and onions, then heat the remaining oil in a skillet.

    Add steak in a single layer—season with salt and pepper. Sear steak on one side for about 2 minutes. Then flip to sear the second side of the steak. Cook it to your preference.

    Add onions and peppers back into skillet, and toss together with steak. Sprinkle provolone over skillet, cover with a lid and cook until cheese has melted. Remove from heat.

    Serve on lettuce and enjoy!
