Scripture
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 (NIV)

The world is not peaceful. There seems to be suffering and pain at every turn. With just one virus, our world was turned upside down. With just a few words, our lives can be turned around. How could we ever find rest?

In chapter 14 of the Book of John, Christ gives words of comfort to the disciples, telling His followers of the rooms waiting for them in Heaven. When Thomas frets that he will not know the way home, Christ reminds us all that He alone is the way, the truth and the life. As believers, we are set forth on a path aimed toward our heavenly home. A place filled with peace and void of pain.

Where we see suffering, God sees the potential for healing. When we fear the unknown, God calls us to walk into it with confidence. This world is not a foe we face alone. We bear His shield of faith, protected by a helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. We are outfitted with a breastplate of righteousness, held up by the belt of truth.

While we walk through this earth, Jesus commands us to not be troubled. He hands us the armor of God and extends His heavenly peace. How could we be afraid?
