Scripture
“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” 1 Corinthians 13:11 (NIV)

Many verses through scripture call us to have a childlike faith. Like Matthew 18:3-4, “And he said: ‘3Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'” We are called to trust in God as kids trust in their parents. To not question, but to know so deeply of God’s love, peace, patience, etc. that it’s like knowing the sky is blue—it just is.

What these verses do not tell us to do is to act childish. He does not want us to throw a tantrum when His answer is “no” or “wait.” He’s calling us to trust Him and to learn more about His character through the trial. He doesn’t want us to question why things happen the way they do. Rather we can choose to seek Him and His guidance for how we can move forward, becoming a reflection of His son, Jesus. It is God’s intention for us to always be progressing in our faith and our intimacy with Him.

So the next time you find yourself in a hard situation, put childish things behind you and seek God’s counsel. Mature in your relationship with God to see His goodness and to learn from Him. Continue to trust Him with your whole being, but also leave yourself open to learning so when people ask you, you can share what you’re learning about God through testimony—expressing how good He truly is.
