Scripture
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)

Contentment is a choice. We can choose to be happy with what we have, grateful for where we are and secure in where God will take us next. Or we can choose to chase more, desire more and be left feeling less than fulfilled.

It’s only human to want more. Greed is a sin that has gripped us since childhood and followed us into adulthood. First it was more Cheerios. Then more Barbies. Then more clothes and time hanging out with friends. Now it’s more money, more stuff, more, more, more. But while it feels “human” to be greedy, it’s heavenly to be content.

God doesn’t condemn our greed because He wants us to live impoverished lives. God condemns greed because it steals focus from His plan and purpose for your life. When you’re too busy chasing the next dollar, you miss the big picture.

God has promised to never leave you. He has promised to never forsake you. Your car will eventually break down. Your house will have a busted pipe or leaky faucet. Your phone screen will crack. Your money may run out. But God? He will still be there right beside you, inviting you into His kingdom. You don’t want to miss out on that opportunity for a fleeting feeling of wealth or temporary pleasure.

Practice contentment today. What you have is a gift from God. What you don’t is a prayer yet to be answered or a trial to be avoided. What is meant to come your way will. Spend time in prayer and find the places where He can grant you peace while you wait for the joy of Heaven.
