Scripture
“Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.” Ecclesiastes 7:9 (NIV)

What makes you angry? Big things? Little idiosyncrasies? Everything?

Becoming mad once in a while doesn’t mean you need an intervention. But if you’re always fuming, this may reveal bigger issues. God gave us emotions for a reason. Lack of control, bitterness and even guilt can cause us to lash out at others for no apparent reason other than—well—we’re just mad.

God’s word tells us to be slow to speak, slow to anger, quick to listen and fast to forgive. When being angry leads us to sin—rage, animosity, hysterics—it’s time to get our hearts and minds right with God. It’s okay to seek professional guidance for tools to turn rough waters into calm sailing.

We’re to be kindhearted, understanding and wise in our dealings with others. Harsh words lead to heated exchanges, but gentle words turn away wrath. If all else fails when trying to rein in your rampage, staying quiet can calm a flared temper.
