Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Yield: 16

Ingredients:

  • 3 2/3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 qt. vegetable oil for frying, more or less as needed
  • 2 Tb. powdered sugar, or as needed

Directions:

  • 1

In a medium mixing bowl, combine and mix ½ of the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl.
  • 2

In a different mixing bowl, beat milk, eggs and sugar. Add the flour mixture in and continue to beat until smooth. Add the rest of the flour until the batter is not too thick to run through a funnel.
  • 3

Warm 1-inch of oil in an 8-inch skillet to 375°F.
  • 4

Using a funnel, cover the bottom opening with your finger, then fill the funnel with about ½ cup of batter. Let the batter flow through the funnel onto the hot oil in the skillet, while staying close to the pan and making a circular motion with the funnel to create shape in the cakes. Let each funnel cake fry until golden brown, they shouldn’t take much longer than a minute. When each one is ready, drain them on paper towels and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Serve warm! You can also drizzle them with honey or chocolate syrup to add some unique sweet flavor!
