Did you know that Moses struggled with his speech?
Moses described himself as “being slow of speech and tongue” in Exodus 4 as he went toe-to-toe with God about convincing Pharaoh to release the Israelites. He thought it made him a liability to God’s plan, and even after hearing God proclaim the miracles and promises in store for the Israelites, Moses still wanted to dip out on the task.
Can you blame him?
Has God whispered in your ear to pray aloud for someone, start a conversation with a stranger about faith or volunteer to serve those struggling with housing insecurity? Maybe you thought, seriously, God? You don’t mean me. You want to send Susie Sunshine. Now, she’s the one who gets things done.
God has a history of sending people on missions that had every reason to say, “Nope!”
Sarah and Abraham were childless past their reproductive prime, yet their lineage built a nation.
Joseph was an angsty teen sold into slavery by his brothers, yet he saved those same brothers and his people.
Ruth was a widow who loved her mother-in-law enough to take a risk, landing her in the lineage of Jesus.
David was just a child sent on a giant mission. Although he had an eye for the ladies, God declared him a man after His own heart.
Friend, you may feel ordinary, but God will equip you to do the extraordinary. That task He’s asking of you may feel unreasonable, questionable or audacious—something so out of your comfort zone that it’s laughable. But when you are following God’s plan, it’s not risky. It’s exactly what you’re meant to do.
