My nose is too broad—and so are other places on my body.
I can’t stand the way my legs look in shorts.
My hair and the humidity are mortal enemies.
There isn’t one woman on the planet who hasn’t felt awkward in her skin. We have been trained to chase an ideal. Society has set us up to compare ourselves to other women. It also skews what we perceive as “normal,” what we should strive to attain and who we should be more like. Some of us are molded to seek perfection from our heads to our toes. This pursuit of being the “ideal everything” can become a circle of destructive self-hatred leading to more significant problems than wishing skinny jeans weren’t a thing.
Our bodies are temples in the eyes of God. The only image of perfection we should chase is to be a little more like Jesus. It’s the enemy who loves to lead us into shame and judgment of how we look, who we are or even who we aren’t. Here’s the truth: you are a daughter of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. No pixie cut, bare midriff or designer purse will ever provide peace beyond all understanding as Jesus can.
If we focus on our shortcomings, we aren’t focused on God. Friend, always remember, you are a masterpiece made in the image of God. Your Father above, who loves every single part of your beautiful self, is the only image to emulate.
