Scripture
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

How did you decide what you are wearing today?

Is it pajama day?
Is today that big presentation?
Were you feeling a little more like sneakers or slingbacks?

When we live a life of faithfulness, God calls us to adopt an entirely new wardrobe. He wants us to clothe ourselves from head to toe with compassion for others, kindness in the most trying circumstances, humility, gentleness and patience.

This spiritual makeover speaks to God’s charge for His followers to put on the pieces of the fruit of the Spirit in every area of our lives. Not just on Sundays when we rock babies in the nursery––but daily. The renewal He provides should change how we carry ourselves. God’s restorative love should drive us toward making the fruit of the Spirit second nature.

Friend, you are set apart when you walk with Jesus. That means finding a way to be gentle when you’d rather speak your mind. It lends to the biblical truth that we are called to love others; that means everyone––always. Compassion should be the rule, not the exception. Clothing yourself in these virtues is not just a good idea. It is what God requires of you. When others notice you’re wearing something different these days, like humility and gentleness, share what the Lord has done in your life since being clothed as a daughter of the King.
