Scripture
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)
God speaks with us daily. Are we listening?
There is no magic formula to discern God’s voice from our own will. Yet the more time you spend with Him, His voice becomes clearer—stronger—and can help you navigate life. God’s voice may not always be audible to you, yet there are questions to consider to make sure your will aligns with God’s.
- Is this biblical? When we spend time in God’s Word, we can better determine if something aligns with scripture. Studying the Bible and God’s perspective gives us clarity. God will never lead you in a direction that conflicts with His Word.
- Does this feel like God? The Bible is filled with examples of God’s character. Is what you’re pondering as consistent, genuine and as trustworthy as God? Our thoughts and goals should always be in sync with His nature and attributes.
- What’s the confirmation I’m getting? You know those moments when you receive similar messages from several sources: church, girlfriends, a class, Bible study or other angel bumps? Friend, those are God moments, and the more you spend time with Him, the more likely you are to hear Him and receive confirmation in more than one place.
- Is it me, or is it You? That thing you think you can’t tackle, that mountain too high to climb, that opportunity that feels anything but humanly possible—these are calls from God to cling to His strength when ours feels limited. If your heart’s desire is meant to happen, He will work through you and in you to bring this plan to fruition.
- Would this make God happy? We love to talk ourselves into and out of things. We convince ourselves it’s not God or that it’s totally God speaking. The best way to discern which actions we should take is to ask ourselves a simple question: Would what I’m considering please God? If so, get going. If it gives you pause, it’s time to pray on it a little longer.
