Scripture
“Come now, let us set things right, says the Lord: Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18 (NIV)

It can be easy to fall into a downward spiral. We may experience guilt when repeatedly making the wrong choices. Over time, sin can become something we are conditioned toward accepting as normal or right. It feels better than doing the right thing. We’re too far down a path to make it right. What does it matter if it’s not hurting anyone else, right? We ask, “What’s the harm if I do it just one more time?” The harm is we continue down a path that isn’t leading towards love or light but shame and regret.

In God’s eyes, it’s not about sin but rather repenting and making better choices. God is merciful and wants only to guide us into His kingdom. If we truly want God’s forgiveness, He will not turn us away no matter how many times we fall short: the best news of all!

Lent is a time for self-reflection and improvement. With this in mind, spend time speaking with God about your mistakes. If you listen––really listen––with an open heart and mind, God will meet you with a wave of peace and grace that always surpasses our own understanding. Sin distances us from God’s outstretched hand. Repentance brings us that much closer to His glory.
