Scripture
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.” Psalm 28:7 (NIV)

Ask any professional athlete about the importance of being competition-ready, and they’ll mention building endurance. The weight room is where muscle mass is conditioned, strengthened and tested. The same idea can be applied to our spiritual fitness. How do we prep and renew our souls for the faith challenges lying ahead?

Spending time with God should be more than a daily to-do. It’s where we seek His counsel, ask for forgiveness, praise His glorious name and thank Him for the blessings He bestows. It fills the well from which we draw upon when we need to get through the day and when we’re called to spiritual battle. From serving others to finding a moment of reflective solitude, caring for the Body of Christ means sharing His love with others while also nurturing our own spirit.

Train your soul by growing in faith. Look for opportunities to help God restore others. When a teammate is down, lift them up. Encourage them, pray with them and remind them that we’re all lost and broken until the Good Shepherd makes sure we’re found. Sharing in each other’s journeys makes running the race that much sweeter.
