There’s something powerful about this verse. David doesn’t hide behind polished prayers or try to sound strong. He admits it all—his longings, his pain, his sighs. And he trusts that God sees it fully.
We sometimes approach God like we have to get ourselves together first, as if He only wants the tidy version of us. But Psalm 38 reminds us that God already knows the mess. He knows the groans we can’t put into words and the needs we don’t even know how to name.
That kind of honesty is freeing. It means you don’t have to fake it in prayer. You can bring the unspoken, the ugly cry, the wordless ache—and God meets you there with compassion.
So don’t hold back. Let your sighs become your prayer. He hears, He knows and He cares.
