Your Father wants to hear everything on your heart. The more we share with Him—our gratitude, our struggles, our hopes—the more honest and vulnerable we become. In turn, our relationship with Him deepens.
Sister, you are not alone in finding it difficult to stay consistent in prayer. Many believers admit that their prayer life often doesn’t look the way they want it to. The Hour of Prayer can feel daunting at first, but it’s designed to help simplify and structure your time with God. It walks you through 12 different ways to pray, spending about five minutes on each. Each section is paired with Scripture to guide and inspire your conversation with God.
A Simple Breakdown of the Hour of Prayer
Praise – Psalm 63:3; Hebrews 13:15
Begin by focusing on how big, glorious and faithful God is. Reflect on all the incredible things He has done in your life and in the world.
Focus – 2 Corinthians 3:16-18
Take a deep breath and let go of distractions. Quiet your mind and center your thoughts on God’s presence.
Confession – Psalm 139:23-24; Psalm 51
Use these Psalms to guide you as you bring your sins, mistakes and burdens before God, asking for His forgiveness and grace.
Pray the Word – Jeremiah 23:29-30
Speak God’s promises back to Him. Declare the truth of Scripture over your life, your family and your circumstances.
Watching – Romans 8:26-27
Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts. Pray over anything or anyone that comes to mind, trusting that God knows exactly what is needed.
Intercession – 1 Timothy 2:1-2; Matthew 9:37-38
Pray for others, especially those who are lost, hurting or searching for God. Lift up your community, your church and the world.
Petition – James 4:2-3; Matthew 6:9-13
Bring your needs before God. Ask boldly, and also pray for your heart to align with His will and desires.
Thanksgiving – Philippians 4:6
Thank God for His faithfulness—what He has done, what He is doing now and what He has yet to do.
Singing – Psalm 100:2; Ephesians 5:19
Play a favorite worship song or hymn and let your heart sing. Whether it’s aloud or quietly, let praise rise from within you.
Meditation – Joshua 1:8; Philippians 4:8
Take a moment to quietly reflect. Let your heart settle on what God has shown you and what you’ve just prayed about.
Listening – John 5:19-20; Isaiah 50:4-5
Open your heart to listen. Be attentive to the gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit. Notice the thoughts, impressions or nudges He may place on your heart.
Praise (Again) – Isaiah 65:24; Psalm 52:9
Close your time as you began—with praise. Thank God for meeting you, for listening and for always being near.
Prayer isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. The Hour of Prayer isn’t a checklist—it’s an invitation to draw closer to God, to hear His voice and to let Him transform your heart. You don’t have to get it all right; you just have to show up.
