Scripture
“Then the woman said to Elijah, ‘Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth.’” 1 Kings 17:24 (NIV)

If a stranger appeared and asked you to give him your last bite of food in the house because “God said so,” would you willingly do it?

Elijah meets a woman—a widow—at a well in Zarephath and asks her for the unthinkable—to make him bread with her last bits of oil and flour while she and her son have the leftovers, if any remain. Yet Elijah is only asking what God commands, so God not only blesses Elijah for doing what has been asked of him, but also provides plenty for the widow during Elijah’s stay.

With little resources but a large amount of faith, this woman freely fed a stranger. Trusting God in all circumstances can be challenging. Yet when we do, He showers us with blessings. God’s sovereignty reigns over all things. When we willingly comply with what He asks, we can trust Him to take care of the details.

Let the struggle to obey God diminish as your faith grows. Rely on Him to care for your needs. Pray that God reminds you of the endless ways He provides generously and abundantly.
