Scripture
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalms 27:14 (NIV)

“Why?” It’s a question every toddler loves to ask. Why is the sky blue? Why is the grass green? Why did you say I couldn’t have a snack? Their curiosity is cute, but it can become frustrating. Dinner is in 30 minutes, that’s why you can’t have a snack. Dinner won’t be ready for 30 minutes because that’s how baking works. Baking is what you do in the oven. THAT is the oven. THAT is the timer. When it dings, then we’ll eat.

So many questions from such a little person. How we perceive their lack of understanding is similar to the way God sees our limited knowledge of the world. He has a grand plan, a carefully thought out way for everything to unfold. But we have our own barrage of questions: Why did you put me through that? What was the point of that? Why did you do this?

Toddlers don’t ask questions just to get under our skin the same way we don’t ask questions just to undermine God’s authority. We simply want answers. We want to understand why the sky is blue and why someone we love would betray us. But with the bravery to step out in belief and the courage to embrace the unknown, we can find patience to wait on the Lord and His answers. Once we learn some basic science concepts, then we can understand why the sky is blue. Once we learn more about our Lord and His promises, then we can understand why the world seems so unfair.

Wait for the Lord. Be patient for His answers. One day, you will see His plan unfolding.
