We all know that Jesus is the reason for the Christmas season, but what does saying that really mean? We celebrate Christmas in honor of Jesus’ birth, but the values of the Christmas holiday are so much more significant than that.
It is because of Jesus’s love that we can celebrate holidays, partake in gift-giving and spend cherished time with our loved ones—He is the reason for everything we have! While we may be celebrating the gift of Jesus’s birth by exchanging gifts with our family and friends, we are also honoring His selflessness by spending our time and money on these expressions and moments filled with love.
Christmas does not end with the gifts we give—it is the joy we spread, the thoughtfulness we commit ourselves to and the love we share. This Christmas, consider fulfilling Jesus’s mission in ways you may not have considered. Volunteer at your local food pantry, donate winter clothing and toys to families in need and wish each stranger you meet in passing a happy holiday. Through these acts of generosity and selflessness, we can emulate the true spirit of the Christmas season.
