Scripture
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and proclaim this message there: (2) “Hear the word of the Lord to you, king of Judah, you who sit on David’s throne—you, your officials, and your people who come through these gates. (3) This is what the Lord says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.”’” Jeremiah 22:1-3 (NIV)

We are called to speak truth to the world. We tell our children of God’s faithfulness, shepherd our family and friends when they lose sight of salvation and hold firm in our faith when shaken by the world. How should we react when injustices are committed by the authorities God calls us to respect?

In the same scripture that calls us to submit to the Lord’s ordained governing authorities, we are also reminded that love is the ultimate fulfillment of the law. No worldly law lacking in God’s love can fulfill His law. No worldly authority is above the truth God has planted in our hearts.

In Jeremiah, God gives us the authority to approach their thrones. God grants us direction in what cannot be tolerated in this world. When believers witness oppression, we must call for liberation. When we know of wrong and violence, believers must unite for its end.

Speaking truth into a broken world is a daunting task. However, when we set our eyes to the reward of salvation, no authority can silence us.
