Have you ever seen a big, strong tree right by the water? Its roots run deep, its leaves stay green and it produces fruit in just the right season. It’s steady. Unshaken. That’s the picture Psalm 1 gives of someone who follows God.

But let’s be real—some days, you don’t feel like that tree. Some days, you feel more like a leaf caught in the wind, tossed around by stress, expectations or whatever life is throwing at you. Maybe you’re overwhelmed by comparison, struggling with doubt or just feeling spiritually dry. It’s easy to let your faith become something you squeeze in when you have time rather than something that actually grounds you.

You might have felt this recently. Maybe you were scrolling through social media, seeing post after post of friends hitting big milestones—buying houses, getting promotions and celebrating anniversaries. Meanwhile, you’re sitting there in sweatpants, eating cereal for dinner, feeling so behind. You catch yourself thinking, What am I even doing with my life? But then you remember this Psalm. It doesn’t say blessed is the one who “has it all together” or “keeps up with everyone else.” It says blessed is the one who delights in God’s Word, who stays rooted in Him no matter what season they’re in.

So, where are you planted right now? Are you sinking your roots deep into God’s truth, drawing strength from Him? Or are you letting the winds of comparison, stress or uncertainty pull you in every direction?

Take a deep breath. Open His Word today, even if it’s just for five minutes. Let your roots grow a little deeper. Because when you’re planted in Him, you won’t wither—you’ll thrive.
