Stuff always seems to get in our way, doesn’t it?
A shoe tripped over in the middle of the night. A car in front of you taking a more leisurely drive than you’d like. A memory or circumstance you struggle to come to terms that becomes an impediment to moving forward in your life.
The Bible is filled with mountainous circumstances people overcame. Moses led the Israelites through deserts to encounter the Promised Land. That wasn’t smooth sailing for him or his people, yet 40 years later, they arrived. A guy named Zacchaeus wasn’t well liked because of his day job as a tax collector. He just wanted a glimpse of Jesus, yet the crowds were in his way. He climbed a tree to get a better view and ended up hosting the Great Teacher for dinner that night. These are prime biblical examples of people who didn’t let a mountain—or scaling a tree—stand in their way of getting where God wanted them to be.
Not all mountains are physical barriers, though. It can be the pain of betrayal, losing a loved one or battling addiction. Focusing on the mountains barricading our path impairs our view to witness God help us scale over them.
Remember, Jesus won our battles on the cross. His victory covers every pain, sorrow and obstacle inhibiting us from moving forward. Have faith in the God who created the sunrise and sunset to help you conquer your mountains. He’ll replace them with highways leading into His loving arms.
