This passage in Ezekiel might feel a little intense at first—God comparing His people to a fruitless vine, good for nothing but firewood. But when you take a closer look, it’s really a wake-up call wrapped in grace.
Vines aren’t known for their strength or structure. You can’t build furniture from them. Their worth isn’t in what they hold up—it’s in what they produce. Their entire purpose is to bear fruit. That’s it. And if they don’t? They’re not living up to the reason they were planted in the first place.
Now think about your own life. You weren’t created to just exist or coast through. You were made to bear fruit—fruit that points to God’s goodness, love and truth. That might look like encouraging a friend, raising your kids with intention, showing grace at work or forgiving when it’s hard. Fruit comes from faith that’s alive, not passive. Rooted, not restless.
The good news? Even if you feel like you’ve been fruitless lately—distracted, distant or just worn out—God doesn’t give up on you. He’s the Gardener who gently prunes, restores and draws you back to life. He wants you to thrive, not just survive. To bloom, not burn out.
So let this be a moment of reflection. Are you bearing fruit in your faith right now? If not, what’s gotten in the way? And what’s one small change you can make today to reconnect with the One who planted you on purpose?
Pray that God takes away anything in your life that is keeping you from bearing good fruit and that He will teach you how to stay connected to Him, so that your words, choices and actions bring life and reflect His glory.
