Scripture
“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His. (21) He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. (22) He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him. (23) I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, You have made known to me what we asked of You, You have made known to us the dream of the king.” Daniel 2:20-23 (NIV)

King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream no magician, enchanter, sorcerer or astrologer could interpret. Frustrated, the king ordered every wise man in his kingdom put to death. This included Daniel who had made himself known to Nebuchadnezzar and been given a place in the king’s service. Upon hearing Nebuchadnezzar’s death sentence, Daniel pleaded to see the king and successfully interpreted the dream. When God delivered the vision to Daniel, saving his life, Daniel cried out in gratitude with this prayer.

Daniel is an example of how to persist in troubling times. Sentenced to death but saved by God’s wisdom. Thrown into a lion’s den but saved by God’s grace. Shrouded in darkness but redeemed by God’s light. Daniel knew strife, but through it all, he put his trust in God and found deliverance at every turn.

Daniel is also an example of how to act when we receive God’s deliverance. We may turn our worries to God, but do we give our praises when He shows up? Daniel didn’t pray just when he needed help. He prayed and praised God’s might before, during, and after his trials. Do you do the same?
