Scripture
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2 (NIV)

Conformity. It’s a hard thing to accomplish but an easy thing to make an idol from. We want straight hair, not curly. We want a thin tummy, not some lovely love handles. We want to be bubbly, not reserved. Or maybe you flip those all around because you have the straight hair, thin tummy and bubbly personality, but the world tells you you’re still wrong. Here’s a little secret we should spread like wildfire: conformity is impossible, and it’s an especially dangerous false idol.

We weren’t made to be anything but who we are. Sure, there are habits God calls us to fix (hello, midnight ice cream binge), but He isn’t concerned with our outward appearance. By trying to conform to the standards of this world, we can erase the one-of-a-kind fingerprint we’re meant to leave upon it.

Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Be constantly reminded of God’s power and grace as you dive into His word, bow before His throne and walk deeper into a relationship with Him. Be transfixed on His face, shaping every action and word around bringing His kingdom to earth because that is His good, pleasing and perfect will.
