Scripture
“Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help.” Daniel 6:10-11 (NIV)

It wasn’t Daniel’s first rodeo getting on his knees and praying to God when he was busted by King Darius’s men. The verse above reads: just as he had done before. He didn’t fall on his knees once or twice during his lifetime but three times daily—no exceptions. His prayer routine was like clockwork, and his friends and acquaintances must have known where and when it occurred, including those who wanted to expose his faith to the king.

Daniel knew he was breaking a decree. He prayed anyway. He knew worshiping anyone other than King Darius resulted in a one-way trip to the lion’s den. He prayed anyway, because he served the only one true and living King who, in turn, sent angels to save him.

In all things—not some things—we are called to worship God. No matter the circumstances, no matter the cost, our faithfulness to God prevails over any earthly woe. And just as Daniel’s testimony turned hearts towards God, your story of survival through faith makes an impact on those around you.
