Scripture
“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,’” Matthew 6:9 (NIV)

Do you ever freeze up when it’s time to pray, like you’re supposed to say it “just right”? Same. But here’s Jesus, in the middle of the Sermon on the Mount, basically saying, “Let me show you how simple this can be.”

It starts with this: Our Father. Not some far-off, untouchable deity. Your Father. Personal. Close. Tender. He’s not checking your grammar—He’s leaning in, wanting to hear your voice.

And hallowed be your name? That’s your moment to pause and remember who you’re talking to. The God who created everything … and still chooses to love you, listen to you and be your safe place.

This first line of the Lord’s Prayer is everything—it’s awe and closeness. Power and presence. It’s you, curling up with your heavenly Father, while also remembering He’s holy, wise and worthy of your trust.

So next time you pray, you don’t need to script it or sound “super spiritual.” Just start with who He is—your Father in Heaven. Start with awe. Then get real. Tell Him what you’re grateful for, what’s hurting, what’s on your mind. He already knows, but He loves when you come to Him anyway.

You don’t need to impress Him. Just show up.
