Scripture
“By the seventh day, God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” Genesis 2:2-3 (NIV)

The world’s expectation is that we work without ceasing. Between working our jobs, maintaining our homes, balancing seven sports for three kids and building relationships with loved ones, our lives are 24/7. But it’s finally time to make them 24/6.

Even the God of the Universe, the one who breathed galaxies into existence and life into our bones, took a day of rest. He blessed the Sabbath to be a time of renewal and reflection. For one day, God asks us to stop our bustling hands and appreciate the work created by His. The Sabbath is a day to celebrate the Lord’s provisions, cherish our loved ones and bask in the glory of our God.

Our work can pause, the dishes can sit another day and our kids can eat some cereal for dinner. What can’t wait is the work of bringing His kingdom to Earth. So take on the challenge of observing the Sabbath. Use it as a time to let your heart cry out to God without the distractions of this world. Let go of day-to-day worries and instead be lifted in praise for our Creator.
