Everyone has experienced these seasons of crisis. They can be caused by many things: loss of a loved one, job change or something seemingly small like your 13-year-old struggling at school. These seasons come and go with what may seem like little control. It can make us feel so powerless, but we are never powerless.
One of the best things to do in these seasons of crisis is to love.
Usually in these challenging seasons, we are drained, pushed to the limit and exhausted. So it may be a daunting idea to say that we should find ways to love others during these times. However, those who love well, even in small ways, are picked up by their loved ones in response.
Expressing love can be as simple as uttering the words aloud or enveloping someone in a warm, heartfelt embrace. This approach can be especially valuable in close, intimate relationships.
Another way to show love to a coworker or a friend might be to bring them coffee/tea or invite them to share a meal with you. Simply spending intentional time with others shows them that you are invested in their life.
When we love others intentionally like this, we can put our own worries and stresses down for a minute, and think about how we have helped our loved ones. Love is a two-way street, when someone in your circles knows how much you love them, they’ll feel it. So let yourself love genuinely, not forgetting your own crisis, but letting yourself find love during it.
