Scripture
“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NIV)

Introspection isn’t easy. Everyone makes mistakes, and it can often be difficult to acknowledge our wrongdoings because they imply that we have sinned. God doesn’t love sinners, does He?

Well, that’s definitely not true. God loves each and every one of us and never expects perfection. Rather, He asks that we strive daily to be more like Him. That’s why Lent provides an amazing avenue to not only rectify our wrongs but also to examine our hearts and weed out what separates us from God.

Self-examination is a constant, never-ending process. At the end of each day, take a moment to reflect. Are there things you could have done differently? Instead of grumbling at the intern to make coffee, could you make a pot for the whole office next time? Pick up your mom’s phone call rather than sending it to voicemail? Resist cutting off that car on the interstate during rush hour? Being human means we often make choices that don’t reflect our best selves, but hindsight is always 20/20. Self-examination offers us the opportunity to change our choices and right our wrongs.
