Scripture
“God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (9) Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him! (10) For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!” Romans 5:8-10, NIV

Born again, forgiven, free. When you accepted Christ into your life, so many beautiful labels were slapped on your once sinful heart. But are they real? Maybe it’s been a while since that day, so surely they’ve faded away by now. Or if you’ve come to Him recently, maybe they didn’t stick correctly and have started to fall off. The old you messed up a lot, and so does the new you. You’re an imperfect sinner, stuck in a sinful world. How does the One who sees everything not see who you truly are?

If you have these thoughts often, you’re not alone. We all stub our toe and let out an expletive once in a while. We succumb to temptations then tune out His voice and dig our heels in deeper. Yet we’re to believe every screw up and let down is washed away and forgotten? It’s only human to question a deal that sounds too good to be true.

But it’s true. Christ died for us while we were still sinning against Him. God sacrificed His only son so that we may approach His throne some day. It isn’t a trick. It isn’t a lie. When God looks at the trail of sin we’ve left behind, He still chooses to extend grace and forgiveness. Why? Because we are truly loved by the Creator of the Universe.
