Scripture
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.” Matthew 6:28 (NIV)

Have you ever tallied up what you have going for you in life? How about your possessions? The sweaters you have lining the shelves didn’t magically appear there. That fourth pair of black heels still in the box didn’t accidentally end up in your home. Whatever you own in your life didn’t appear out of thin air. A choice was made, a transaction completed and the packages—and bills—came home with you.

Whatever need arises, God has promised to take care of it. Yet sometimes we fill those “needs” falsely because they were never needs at all but instead things we wanted. Although having clothes in your dresser and shoes on your feet isn’t necessarily a road to destruction, being wise with our money and staying free of debt is what believers are called to do. Going into debt to have the nicest car or the best vacation isn’t that great if they cause you to be late paying your mortgage.

Everything belongs to God. We’re the stewards of the possessions and wealth we’re blessed with. He can take them away just as easily as He sent them our way. What we value and how we live displays where we place our worth and our worries.
