Scripture
“Come near to God and he will come near to you...” James 4:8 (NIV)

Have you ever had one of those moments that make you think: Wow, God!

There are the big ones, like being rescued safely after a dangerous accident or knowing your mom will recover after emergency heart surgery. Those are glorious and not to be discounted. But what about the small ones? The ones we sometimes miss because we’re too busy not looking towards God in the simple yet sweet moments. The times when we’re saved from something simply because He’s near us.

Like the time you went to put on your winter coat after its yearly hibernation only to find a few dollars in the pocket—just enough for your daughter’s field trip. What about when you hit all those green traffic lights in a row when running late, and now you’ll arrive at your appointment on time. It’s not to say that God isn’t with us when we’re digging in the couch cushions for change or sitting idle at frustratingly long red lights. He’s always there. But do you stop to thank him for those small mercies just as you do the big ones?

It’s normal for us to reach out to God in times of trouble. To cling a little tighter than we might when we’ve got the world on a string. We thank Him, praising Him with exaltation when we’re delivered from something difficult or tragic. Whether it’s during the big moments or the little nudges, He’s right there with you.
